Someone Finally Calls Ray Lewis On All His Bullshit

Former New York Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer sounded off on Ray Lewis during Wednesday’s Media Day, calling the Baltimore Ravens linebacker a ‘caricature’ of himself and said he expects his on-field antics from someone in the WWE.

Despite the comments, Toomer said he loves Lewis as a player and considers him a first-ballot Hall of Fame selection, but he told USA Today Sports that Lewis is making his current run to the Super Bowl all about himself and not the overall team, adding that the Giants would have never allowed one player to single themselves out like that during the season:

“It’s definitely all about him. Once a guy goes to the center of the field, goes into the victory formation on the last play of his last home game. I just don’t think the Giants or any organization I’ve ever been a part of, even growing up, would allow somebody to single themselves out like that. [I]f you single yourself out after you make a play, that’s one thing. But to walk out on the field reminds me of the WWE, like The Rock coming out. You’re becoming a caricature of yourself. It’s exhausting. I don’t know why somebody would want that.”

Toomer, who lost to Lewis’ Ravens in the Super Bowl as a member of the Giants in 2001, also thinks it’s a bunch of “hypocrisy” for Lewis to call himself a religious man when Toomer believes his track record says otherwise:

“If you want to say you’re Mr. Religious and all of that, have a clean record. Don’t say all of that stuff if you know there’s stuff that might come back. Those are the things that, when I look at him, I just think hypocrisy.”

Lewis plead guilty to obstruction of justice as part of his plea agreement involving a double-homicide in Atlanta in 2000. He is also facing allegations that he used deer-antler spray to speed up his rehab earlier in the season, as detailed in a story that Sports Illustrated broke this week. The spray contains an ingredient banned by the NFL. Lewis responded by saying he is “too blessed to be stressed.”

FINALLY!! How has it taken this long before someone with a voice has actually had the balls to call this guy out? The fact is Ray Lewis is a me-first player masquerading as a team guy, he is the very definition of a hypocrite. In Lewis’ deluded mind you can be a murderer or an accessory to a murder, beat your wife, and have the fact that you cheated just washed away because you say it is God’s will. It is utter horseshit, religion is just a crutch Lewis leans on because he doesn’t think he should have to atone for anything after all the free passes the media has given him through the years.

I feel like a pig in shit watching Lewis get even the slightest bit flustered during his Superbowl media week interviews because it isn’t the massive ball washing he expected it to be. For the first time he is actually being asked the tough questions and he tries to wash over it with his “God’s will” bullshit and people aren’t actually letting him just slide by for once. The sad thing is though it’s not nearly as bad as it could or should be, he is isn’t being pressed as hard as any other player with the same background would be but I guess I’ll take it. So fuck you Ray Lewis and thank you Amani Toomer, it sucks that it had to be a Giant, but at least someone called this asshole out. The sad thing is there will be a ton of people labeling Toomer bitter and jealous over this when he actually just has a brain and can see Lewis for the piece of shit that he is. Go 9er’s.
